Aprilia Tuareg 660 & T-Rex Racing Skid Plate
**This is not a sponsored video.**
In this video I explain why I choose the T-Rex Racing Skid plate for my Aprilia Tuareg 660 and how I was able to mount it up the Givi Crash Bars. I had to make a few minor adjustments to get it all to fit together but the final protection package came out really well. Take a look for yourself and see how I put this all together.

Rabaconda, New Tires, Cast Wheels on the KTM 390 Adventure

In this video I use the Rabaconda Street Tire changer to replace the tires on the cast wheels of a KTM 390 Adventure. I decided to return to cast wheels so that I would not have to deal with tubes. I bought my Tuareg 2 months ago. finished 600 mile oil change and break in period. In the N. GA mtns yesterday and found myself smiling over and over again. When tacking this bike up and the hitting the quick shifter from 3rd to 4th it felt like I was being launched from a cannon. Can't wait to get it out west on the CO BDR. Good review, I am following your channel for accessories, the Perun top case will be my 2nd purchase based off your review. I purchased the Puig Touring Windscreen and it made a huge deference on the road, no buffeting and it looks good.

    I just ordered one after a brief test ride. I totally get what you're saying. I'm coming from a 2014 Super Tenere. It was a fantastic and completely reliable long distance tourer, but at around 600 lbs. had become such a handful as I've gotten older (now in my 60s). 473 / 5.000 Hi, how are you? I just installed the extenders, and I love how the bike turned out. I am 1.90 tall and together with the handlebar extenders I am very upright on the motorcycle while standing. The only thing that leaves me a little worried is the safety, but I read comments that they had no problems with them breaking or coming off? I estimate that nice people are serious and professional. I await your comments regarding security and how long you have had them installed.... thank you very much

    • @advmatt
      @advmatt 2 дні тому

      The fork extenders are manufactured in a way that they are not able to come out of the triple clamp. The small reduction in clamping surface along the forks at the lower clamp have not been a problem. I have around 6000 to 8000 miles on the fork extenders. I am guessing at the mileage, but I have had then installed for a long time with no issues.

    Well I made the jump! Sold my KTM 390 Adv and bought the new CFMOTO 450MT! Fantastic bike that suits me perfectly. Heaps of parts and accessories coming out, but because of how popular this bike has been the suppliers can’t keep up with the demand. The 390 was a great bike, but the 450MT kills the 390 in what you get for your money. Don’t forget CFMOTO own 51% of KTM and they are now manufacturing for Yamaha. Problem also with the 390 I had spend a lot of money get to function as an adventure bike. With 450MT it’s ready to go, off the showroom floor! If you like spending money then there’s crash bars top and bottom, skid plates, taller seat, slip on exhaust etc. Over 400 were pre sold in Australia before they hit our shores. There’s still back orders to filled. I was lucky to get one! No regret purchasing this bike at all. Oh first service will be way cheaper than the KTM as well.

    So Matt... what's your unicorn adv tire with out considering price?

On my KTM 390 Adventure my favorite rear tire is the Heidenau K60 scout because it doesn't have the center stripe of the other sizes and goes around 5k miles. As for tires in the 150/70R17 or 18, I haven't found a perfect tire. The Tusk 2track is pretty great especially considering the price. I am still in search of the perfect rear tire in this size. I have not tried MotoZ tires but they get great reviews. The price has kept me away. I plan to try the Mitas E07+, it has received good reviews. Hope this helps.

    When installing (unilke removing), I found non-sensical to have the bead across the duck head (above knot and below beak); I put the bead entirely down now (only the knot works, not the beak). Otherwise the knot tries to lift back up the bead already down while the beak is rather poor at keeping the bead down. My mistake, I mean Dunlop Trailmax Mission tire set, - have you ever tried these tires ?

    • @advmatt
      @advmatt 10 днів тому

      Yes, I have put about 10k miles on the Trailmax Mission on my GS. In my opinion it is an 80/20 tire at best. The 50/50 rating Dunlop gives it is a gross overestimation of its performance in dirt and gravel. I am not a fan of these tires. If I was riding across the country and planned very little dirt roads they would work. I would not use them if I was planning to ride a BDR. I am sure plenty of riders have used them on BDRs, but so much traction is given up over a good knobby tire.

  • @louispaulter8733

    Matt, How does this tire set compares to the Dunlop Trailmaster Mission Tire set ?

    • @advmatt
      @advmatt 10 днів тому

      This tire setup is much better on dirt and gravel roads both in traction and braking. The Trailmax Mission tires will last much longer but in my experience are not really a very good handling tire in comparison. If you want lots of miles and ok traction go with the Mission. If you want the best possible traction with decent tire life go with the setup I have here.

    Great explanation on why you like tubeless tires. I came to the same conclusion on my own, although for where I ride there isn’t any reason to carry a tube and irons. If I damage a rim or rip a tire, I’ll call AAA. Also thanks for the Rabaconda demonstration. I’m debating on getting one. It looks like it will take some practice. By chance do you balance your tires, and if so, how?

    • @advmatt
      @advmatt 11 днів тому

      Thanks. I use Ride On fluid to balance my tires. Squirt a bottle in rach wheel and it will auto balance for you. It is supposed to plug small holes but I don't if that works. Maybe it does, which is why I have never had a flat on tubeless wheels and tires.

    Try holding the bead in and spray with major soapy water around the tire and in the bead where you are holding it in. Oh and get off your knees unless you want to hurt yourself, pushing down with your body weight is much easier. I had to play with my bead breaker at different angles until I found the right spot for each size wheel. A few ideas to play with just keep riding.

    Take that plastic thing off. The straight metal works better. 3 of us split the cost on a rabaconda. Had one tire we couldn't seat. Bike shop said they use dawn dishwashing liquid. Went right on. Dawn and water in a spray bottle seems to be the best.

    • @advmatt

    • @Sprchkn
      @Sprchkn 11 днів тому

      Seconded, it slides up the tire due to that having a fixed connection to the bar. If you've ever been fortunate enough to use a commercial changer, you can see that the bead breaker can be aimed to pivot down into the wheel lip rather than aim up on the tire sidewall like this tool. Additionally the commercial machines also don't have plastic there as it grips the tire better to prevent it slipping up towards the tread of the tire.

    a missing cruise control is just a bit of inconvenience but not a bad thing, drive by wire has absolute not the same feedback like cable operated throttle. You are the first person who is complaining about the locked linkage, but I guess thats your bash plate you fitted. Have fun with the T7

    • @advmatt
      @advmatt 11 днів тому

      I am surprised no one has busted a linkage with a rock flipping up or smashing into a log crossing. I don't ride crazy stuff and get rocks flipped up and caught underneath the bash plate frequent enough it's a concern. Throttle by wire does feel different than cable. The T7 throttle return spring is heavy and after eight to 10 hours in the saddle my right arm is killing me. I have to rethink how I travel on this bike. I don't think I am capable of riding big miles day after day on this bike like have done on others to get to cool back country locations.

  • @Speedytrip
    @Speedytrip 12 днів тому

    Nice review, it's a good thing you specified what size caused you issues (instead of just assuming they are all crap, it could be related to this size and the weight of your bike...maybe). Over the years I've noticed that what ever tire it is, whatever brand, there's always some experiencing bad wear or grip. On the 705s I've read that some found them super slippery in the wet, I've never had that experience and I ride pretty aggressive. I've gone through at least 10 sets of shinkos (705, and 805) without ever having an issue (on an africa Twin, triumph scrambler, Versys 650, and soon on my Super Tenere), but I can't claim they are perfect and everyone will love them, just like I couldn't say that about a Michelin tire :)
